Septic Tanks and Septic Services

Whenever you use your washing machine, toilet or sink, wastewater flows to the septic tank. It is a concrete or fiberglass water tight container that sits underground near your home. It is sized according to the number of bathrooms and your water usage. Wastewater is separated into three parts; heavy solids that settle to the bottom, grease and fat called floatables that rise to the surface, and clear liquid waste. The septic system also has a vent that allows gas to escape.

A well pump repair network leads from the septic tank to the absorption field where wastewater is biologically treated by the soil. The absorption field is a series of trenches that are filled with washed gravel, stone or a gravelless product. The absorption field is designed to treat a specific volume of wastewater in a specified time.

Signs Your Septic Tank Needs Pumping or Repairs

A septic emergency is a situation in which blackwater (wastewater) backs up through your toilets and drains or overflows from the septic tank into the area surrounding the tank. This may indicate that the septic tank is full or the baffles are blocked. Having the tank pumped and cleaning the septic system as needed will prevent a septic emergency. If you experience a septic emergency, call your local septic service professional right away.
