Bryars Spray Foam insulation is a unique, site-applied building material. It is sprayed onto walls, attics, crawl spaces and rim joists to create an air-tight building envelope that improves energy efficiency. Its performance is a combination of its ability to resist conduction and convection as well as its ability to stick to surfaces. This unique combination helps to keep homes warm in winter and cool in summer.
Spray polyurethane insulation is a plastic material that contains no harmful chemicals and is safe for people, pets and the environment. It is derived from naturally occurring methyl methane, and is free of Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFC’s) and Hydrofluoroolefins (HFO’s). It does have a small amount of organic odor that can be noticed by some people. These odors are caused by unreacted amine catalysts and can be reminiscent of fish, cat urine or fresh latex paint. These odors will go away as the foam cures.

While spray foam insulation is primarily used in new construction projects, it can also be applied to existing homes, commercial buildings and post barns. Unlike other types of insulation, spray foam doesn’t compress or sag over time and is an excellent choice for retrofitting old structures.
The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors has been calling for regulation of spray foam installation practices, with particular concerns around misselling and sub-standard insulation installations. Some lenders have begun to refuse mortgages for properties with spray foam insulation, and others require independent specialist surveys to assess the impact of the material on the overall safety and structure of a property.
